DocLands Film Festival, May 10-14

The 2023 DocLands Documentary Film Festival (May 10-14, 2023) is presented by the California Film Institute (CAFILM). Here are 3 of their outstanding documentaries of special interest to our indigenous relatives.

When the Muscogee (Creek) Nation repeals the Free Press Act of 2015, fearless and irrepressible Mvskoke Media journalist Angel Ellis risks her reputation and livelihood by taking up a political battle to keep her fellow citizens informed and her government accountable.

We’re excited to join as community partners for LAKOTA NATION VS UNITED STATES with an onstage conversation with directors Jesse Short Bull and Laura Tomaselli, followed by a reception after the film.

A haunting and poetic reflection on the complex history between the US and the Lakota Nation, Jesse Short Bull and Laura Tomaselli’s film explores the struggles of their ancestors and the ongoing efforts of the current generation to reclaim their identity and their land, the sacred Black Hills.
